Official Plan

The Official Plan is our policy document that guides and shapes land use, development, and resource management in Haldimand County. It is used to ensure that future planning development appropriately balances social, economic and environmental interests of the community.

About the Official Plan

Haldimand County introduced an Official Plan in 2006. In 2019 we initiated a staged review of the plan to ensure it remains up-to-date, reflects current provincial policy and represents the Haldimand's long-term vision.

Phase 1 of the Official Plan Update took effect in November 2021 and Phase 2 in May 2024. It will be reviewed and updated periodically to ensure it reflects changing conditions in Haldimand.

Official Plan amendments

An Official Plan amendment is required in situations where the proposed use, though generally consistent with the Provincial policy, is not permitted in the Haldimand County Official Plan. Learn more about Official Plan amendments
