Background
The website redesign project was approved by County Council in February 2023 after feedback gathered from residents and staff in 2022 identified the need for an improved platform that meets Ontario accessibility standards. Haldimand Council also set Website Improvements as one of its six main priorities for the 2022-2026 Council Term aiming to provide a more transparent and easier communication format that meets accessibility requirements.
Enabling Accessibility Fund Grant
The Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF) provides funding for projects that make Canadian communities and workplaces more accessible for persons with disabilities. EAF aims to create more opportunities for persons with disabilities to take part in community activities, programs and services, or access employment.
Haldimand County applied for funding through the EAF in an effort to expedite compliance with website accessibility requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). The county was successful in its application and awarded $96,000 to support the project.
