Wage Range Hourly:
- Operator-in-Training: $27.617
- Operator 1: $33.489
- Operator 2: $36.841
Position Status: Permanent full-time
Work Hours: 40 per week

Position Summary
The Water and Wastewater Operator is responsible for undertaking and/or assisting with various activities related to the operation and maintenance of the County’s water distribution and wastewater collection & storm sewer collection systems to ensure the effectiveness / efficiency of the facilities and systems.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
Operator-in-Training
Education
- Ontario Grade 12 graduation (including relevant courses), or equivalent (note: educational equivalency is determined by the Director of the MECP)
- Must possess OIT certification in water distribution and wastewater collection.
- Must have successfully completed Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) approved entry level training course.
Experience
- Over six months, up to one year current related experience and orientation, training & adjustment on the job itself
Operator 1
Education
- Must possess Class 1 certification in water distribution and wastewater collection.
- Ontario Grade 12 graduation (including relevant courses), or equivalent (note: educational equivalency is determined by the Director of the MECP)
Experience
- Minimum of three years related experience including one year as an OIT in a Water Distribution and Waste Water Collection system (As per MECP Certification Standards).
Operator 2
Education
- Must possess Class 2 certification in water distribution and wastewater collection.
- Ontario Grade 12 graduation (including relevant courses), or equivalent (note: educational equivalency is determined by the Director of the MECP)
Experience
- Minimum of five years related experience including three as an Operator holding level 1 Water Distribution and level 1 Waste Water Collection licenses (As per MECP Certification Standards).
Knowledge/Skills
- Must have demonstrated working knowledge of water distribution and wastewater operations.
- Must have working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Knowledge of SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition)
- Valid possess a current valid Ontario Class DZ Driver’s license
- Technology Aptitude
- Must have basic computer skills to ensure ability to follow steps that are well defined to obtain/input information
- Proven ability to use software on a regular and recurring basis to key in basic data (for example, time input into e-Timesheets, etc.) and to send emails

Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to:
Functional
- Inspect, evaluate, adjust, service and repair all water, wastewater and stormwater mains and services
- Inspect, operate, adjust and repair to all components of the reservoir & pump station supply and standpipes for the communities of Caledonia & Cayuga including SCADA operation
- Conduct infrastructure locates
- Conduct water sampling and analysis
- Install water meters
- Respond to service requests and system issues/emergencies both during and after-hours,
- Perform preventive maintenance activities for all water distribution and wastewater/stormwater collection system components as required
- Complete documentation required for / by the organization (time sheets, log books, service reports, etc.)
- Ensure all MECP regulatory requirements are being met under area of assigned responsibility
- Undertake maintenance and housekeeping activities required for the water distribution and wastewater collection shops / facilities / systems (painting, cleaning, yard work, etc.)
- Other duties, assignments and/or projects as assigned that fall within the general parameters of the position

Position Requirement(s)
- A satisfactory current police check (LE 219 or Equivalent) from within the last 6 months
Working Conditions
- Regular Business Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
