Outdoor rinks in Fisherville & Selkirk open to the public

Thanks to January’s cold temperatures, Haldimand County’s two public outdoor skating rinks in Fisherville and Selkirk are ready to welcome skaters! Both managed by volunteer groups, the outdoor rinks are free to use on a first-come, first-served basis.

The outdoor rink at the Fisherville Lions Park’s covered pavilion is located at 18 Main Avenue South and is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. This year—along with lights to allow skaters to enjoy the ice after dark—the Fisherville Lions have installed solar panels to shelter the south side of the pavilion and preserve the quality of the ice surface, which is flooded at the end of each day by the volunteers.

The Selkirk Park outdoor rink is located at 19 Main Street West, Selkirk. The rink is not covered and is not regularly flooded or maintained. Snow shovels are available onsite to clear any snow, if necessary.

Outdoor rink users are reminded to wear protective gear on the ice including CSA-approved helmets, particularly for children. Additionally, hockey sticks and pucks are to be used only when all users on the ice are prepared and equipped to play shinny or hockey. Users are also reminded to comply with Haldimand County’s Public Conduct on Haldimand County Property policy.
