New wayfinding and directional signage being installed as part of Haldimand’s Comprehensive Signage Strategy

Residents are starting to see new wayfinding and gateway prototype signs being installed at locations across Haldimand. The installations are directly related to the Comprehensive Signage Strategy that was approved by Council in 2019.

The Comprehensive Signage Strategy compliments Haldimand County’s updated logo & brand identity and, when fully rolled out, will see a variety of older and outdated signs replaced across the entire municipality. A full inventory of existing signs was taken and a replacement schedule developed to ensure signs get replaced gradually once they reach the end of their lifespan.

An effective signage strategy provides a consistent, cohesive identity that aims to increase economic impact, assisting users with easy-to-read information and directional guidance. The new signs aim to:

  • Provide a good first impression of the community;
  • Create a consistent system for communicating information to residents and visitors;
  • Enable effective navigation throughout the county;
  • Encourage exploration of Haldimand County and its key assets;
  • Provide an opportunity to enhance community pride & identity, and;
  • Raise Haldimand County’s brand identity & profile.

Given the volume of signs requiring replacement and associated costs, Council approved staff’s recommendation to install new signs over a 5 to 10 year period.

"Consistent, on-brand wayfinding signage is more than just a directional tool—it’s an invitation to explore. Clear, visually cohesive signage enhances the visitor experience, encourages longer stays, and boosts local businesses by guiding travelers to hidden gems. When people can easily navigate our unique communities, they’re more likely to shop, dine, and immerse themselves in all we have to offer, strengthening our local economy in the process," noted Lidy Romanuk, Manager of Economic Development & Tourism.

Several new prototype signs have been installed throughout Haldimand. While most are currently located in Cayuga, they will begin to appear in other communities in the near future.
