Haldimand County celebrates Black History Month

Haldimand County is celebrating Black History Month to celebrate and honour the legacy and contributions of Black people in Canada and to Haldimand County.

Visit the Heritage and Culture page to learn more about Black History in Haldimand.

During February, we are also featuring an in-person exhibit at the Haldimand County Administration Building.

The display will highlight Cayuga’s Black businesses with a focus on the Barnes family. As one of the early Black families to settle in Haldimand, the Barnes’ were active in their community and staples in the local businesses of Cayuga.

The HCTV video will complement the display by celebrating more of Haldimand’s Black families and individuals who played a significant role in their communities.

Both the exhibit and video can be found in the Haldimand County Administration Building Lobby at 53 Thorburn St., Cayuga or online, and will be available for viewing during the month of February.
