Haldimand County awarded $10.5 million in provincial funding to complete Highway 6 Water Main Twinning project

Haldimand County has been awarded $10,526,600 from the province to support the Highway 6 Water Twinning project. Staff submitted a funding proposal in late 2024 that was approved by the Ministry of Infrastructure’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF) – Intake II.

The Highway 6 Water Main twinning to Hagersville project involves the construction of 6.4kms of new 450 mm potable water transmission main that will "twin" the existing water pipe connecting the booster station located at Haldimand Road 55 to the water distribution system in Hagersville.

The new transmission main will support the servicing of approximately 2,800 housing units in Hagersville as well as provide additional water supply to two First Nations communities.

The new 450 mm water transmission line was initially identified through the 2009 Hagersville Master Servicing Plan (MSP) as necessary to meet the water demand of proposed growth in the community of Hagersville.

In addition to addressing water demands, the twinned transmission line will also provide operational redundancy should a transmission line break occur on either of the lines. The twinning of the transmission line will also provide the opportunity to extend water servicing to Caledonia and Cayuga in the future.

The project is in the final design stages and is anticipated to be tendered in March 2025.

“I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the province for their significant contribution to the Hagersville Water Main Twinning project. This funding will enable us to enhance our critical infrastructure and ensure residents of Haldimand – both present and future – will have access to a clean, affordable, reliable water supply for years to come,” said Haldimand County Mayor Shelley Ann Bentley.

“We are very pleased to see the province investing in its rural communities and providing much-needed financial support. I want to sincerely thank the province for taking action to support municipalities in building a strong, sustainable future,” stated Haldimand Chief Administrative Officer Cathy Case.
