Flood Warning Issued for Haldimand County

HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON – The Grand River Conservation Authority is issuing a Flood Warning for Haldimand County.

A mixed precipitation event resulted in greater than 100mm of total precipitation in many areas and increased runoff causing flooding in some parts of the Grand River watershed. While the weather system has passed, river flows will continue to increase in the Grand River south of Brantford over the weekend as water makes its way downstream.

River flows are expected to peak in York on Saturday, April 5, in the afternoon and will result in flooding of low-lying areas including Fife Street in Caledonia, Ouse Street in Cayuga, Sims Lock Road, and Grand Sports Road.

The public is reminded to exercise extreme caution around all local waterways. Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery and, when combined with cold, fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard. Parents are reminded to keep their children and pets away from all watercourses. Recreational users near local waterways should be aware of the current conditions and exercise additional caution.

Haldimand County Emergency Services will be actively monitoring conditions and providing updates as necessary. Residents should pay close attention to changing weather conditions and watch for updates flood messages. A flood guide for lakeshore property owners and other emergency preparedness resources can be found at HaldimandCounty.ca/floods.

This message will be in effect until 12:00 pm Monday, April 07, 2025.
