Road and sidewalk maintenance

Our staff implement programs that help improve the safety of road users and pedestrians year-round.

Our annual roadside mowing program usually begins in June and includes two scheduled cuts. Both staff and contractors complete the program, which includes cutting grass on roadsides and rural intersections as well as manual trimming of all safety barrier systems and traffic signs.

Surface repairs

We inspect all roads in the county once every 30 days at minimum. Some roads are inspected more often depending on their class. A road’s class is determined by the provincial standard, based on daily traffic counts and speed limits.

Street sweeping

Street sweeping is performed throughout our urban areas where curbs and gutters exist. Sweeping occurs at a minimum of once in the spring, once in mid-summer, and twice in the fall. Main streets and downtown cores are swept more often.

Our roadside drainage program runs throughout the summer and fall seasons. The program includes entrance and cross-road culvert maintenance along with ditch reconstruction, maintenance and cleanout.

All county sidewalks are inspected annually with restorations scheduled in order of priority. The restoration program runs from mid- to late-summer to account for seasonal changes.
