Each of our four home areas has a dedicated Recreationist who plans and implements a wide range of activities to enhance our residents’ emotional, social and cognitive well-being. Activities are designed to promote and maintain resident abilities focusing on a therapeutic approach to social and leisure time.
Featured recreational activities
We offer both structured and independent activities and adhere to DementiAbility principles when developing programs for residents with cognitive impairments. We are passionate about creating space for our residents to be creative and build off personal past interests such as art or mechanics.
Computer technology and ambient activity boards
Our Marshview home area boasts a new Tech Corner where residents can stay connected with family, journal or play games. In Creekview, residents can utilize our ABBY Board – an interactive touch screen where you can access photos, listen to music and play games.
Additionally, wi-fi is available throughout all buildings for residents and their families.
Games room
Our games room is located central to all home areas. It’s a great place to meet up with fellow residents, family and friends. Available activities include card and board games, shuffleboard, a pool table, large-print books, a record player, and a dart board.
Tuck shop
Our Tuck Shop is open daily from 2 to 4 p.m., stocked with items based on resident suggestions. Residents are able to stop in and read the newspaper while enjoying coffee, tea, sweet treats, chips, and year-round ice cream. Toiletry items are also available. All Tuck Shop proceeds are used to support our programs.
Restaurant outings
Our recreation staff often arrange resident outings for lunch and dinner at restaurants in Dunnville, Hamilton and Port Colborne.
Special events
From summer ice cream socials and garden barbeques, to family picnics and holiday parties, we offer a variety of special events throughout the year for residents and families to enjoy.
Pet therapy
Grandview Lodge is also home to pet birds that love to hang out with our residents. Every spring, we also welcome two chickens to our coop in Centennial Gardens, recognizing the horticultural history of many residents. Families are also welcome to bring pets to visit a resident, subject to program guidelines.
Church services
Several local churches visit us on Sundays to provide church services. Families are welcome to join as well.
Snoezelen
A combination of two Dutch verbs (snuffelen and doeselen) our Snoezelen room is a place for residents to explore and relax. Also referred to as a multi-sensory environment, the Snoezelen room offers a blend of colourful lights, soothing sounds/music, textures and scents to stimulate the senses.
