Public Arts and Culture Strategy

Haldimand County is undertaking a Public Arts and Culture Strategy (PACS) to identify opportunities to advance public arts and cultural activities throughout Haldimand.

Check back to see updates about the status of this Strategy in Spring 2025

Executive summary

Arts and culture contribute significantly to Haldimand County’s sense of place, well-being and civic pride. Arts and culture also inspire, bring communities together and provide opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy and contribute to a creative and healthy community.

Working in collaboration with community partners and stakeholders, the proposed Public Arts and Culture Strategy will include a vision for arts and culture in Haldimand County, outline priorities and actions that are achievable and support the needs of a growing and diverse community and include a supporting policy to provide structure to decision-making and resource allocation.

The anticipated completion date for the Public Arts and Culture Strategy is Spring 2025.

Public engagement

Public engagement to encourage all residents, community groups and local organizations to share their ideas and suggestions took place throughout the Fall and Winter of 2024/2025. This included four in-person community consultation sessions in October 2024 and January 2025, as well as through an online survey which was available for input until February 13, 2025.

On December 10, 2024, Heritage & Culture staff presented an update to Council about the development of the Public Arts and Culture Strategy including its purpose, preliminary work to date and community input, next steps and an overview of Haldimand’s support to date of heritage, arts and culture.

Next steps

Staff will present to Council the draft Public Arts and Culture Strategy and related policy in Spring 2025, focusing on key topic areas:

  • Opportunities to capitalize on Haldimand County’s existing cultural assets

  • Developing a vision for arts and culture that is inclusive, equitable, diverse, and accessible

  • Increasing capacity and collaboration between Haldimand and its partners

  • Supporting the integration of arts and culture into Haldimand County planning and place-making processes
