We offer a variety of summer employment opportunities for students aged 14 to 24 who are enrolled in school or returning to school in the fall.

How to apply

Student employment applications for 2025 open on December 13, 2024. The application deadline varies by job with some closing on January 31, 2025, and some on March 31, 2025. Refer to the specific job information to confirm the deadline.

The application system will remain open until April 30, 2025. Applications received after a job’s noted deadline will only be considered if the position is still available after the initial round of hiring.

Application and hiring process

  1. Make sure your cover letter and resume are up-to-date and saved as a single document in PDF format.
  2. Submit an online application by the noted deadline date. You can apply for more than one position on a single application.
  3. Once your application is submitted, you will receive a confirmation email with an applicant number.
  4. If you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted by the County.

Our human resources division cannot provide updates on the status of your application once submitted. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.  


Opportunities for high school students

The below jobs require applicants to be enrolled in secondary school with plans to return to school in the fall, at minimum. Post-secondary students under 25 are also welcome to apply.

Aquatic Instructor/Lifeguard

The Aquatic Instructor/Lifeguard is responsible for delivering high-quality and enjoyable swimming lessons, and maintaining the safety of all swimmers.

  • Minimum age required – 15 years old
  • Wage - $18.92 per hour
  • Minimum education required – enrolled in secondary school and returning in the fall
  • Additional certifications required – National Lifeguard (NL), Lifesaving Instructor “Bronze Family,” Lifesaving Swim Instructor, Standard First Aid, and Aquatic Supervisor training for Acting Aquatic Coordinators (AACs)

Assistant Lifeguard

The Assistant Lifeguard is responsible for pool entry and exit, keeping accurate attendance records, general cleaning duties, and providing assistance with lifeguarding and instruction based on qualifications.

  • Minimum age required – 15 years old
  • Wage - $17.20 per hour
  • Minimum education required – enrolled in secondary school and returning in the fall
  • Additional certifications required – National Lifeguard (NL) or Bronze Cross, Wading Pool Operator (Dunnville only), and Standard First Aid/CPR-C

Camp Counsellor

The Camp Counsellor is responsible the supervision and safety of campers, and delivering fun, engaging activities that promote healthy child development.  

  • Minimum age required – 15 years old
  • Wage - $17.20 per hour
  • Minimum education required – enrolled in secondary school and returning in the fall
  • Additional certifications required – Current Standard First Aid, High Five Principles of Healthy Development (PHCD), and Lifesaving Society Safeguard (not required for March Break)

Camp Lead

The Camp Lead is responsible for overseeing the care, supervision and safety of campers, and acts as a liaison between camp staff, parents, campers, and County staff.

  • Minimum age required – 15 years old
  • Wage - $18.92 per hour
  • Minimum education required – enrolled in secondary school or post-secondary school and returning in the fall
  • Additional certifications required – Current Standard First Aid, High Five Principles of Healthy Development (PHCD), and Lifesaving Society Safeguard

Inclusion Counsellor

The Inclusion Counsellor is responsible for supporting the care, supervision and safety of campers with additional needs, and delivering enjoyable and inclusive activities to their assigned camper(s).

  • Minimum age required – 15 years old
  • Wage - $18.92 per hour
  • Minimum education required – enrolled in secondary school or post-secondary school and returning in the fall
  • Additional certifications required – Current Standard First Aid, High Five Principles of Healthy Development (PHCD), and Lifesaving Society Safeguard (not required for March Break)

Student Page

The Student Page is responsible for sorting and processing library materials, ensuring collections are orderly, and assisting with library programming.

  • Minimum age required – 14 years old
  • Wage - $16.20 per hour (14 to 17 years old) / $27.20 per hour (18 years and up)
  • Minimum education required – enrolled in secondary school and returning in the fall

Facilities, Parks, Cemeteries and Forestry Operations (FPCF) Student

The FPCF Student is responsible for maintaining County facilities, parks and cemeteries (including groundskeeping, cleaning, and general maintenance), and providing assistance to FPCF divisions as needed.

  • Minimum age required – 16 years old
  • Wage - $17.20 per hour
  • Minimum education required – enrolled in secondary school and returning in the fall

Summer Student – Maintenance (Grandview Lodge)

The Summer Student position at Grandview Lodge is responsible for general labour activities including landscaping and interior/exterior maintenance.  

  • Minimum age required – 16 years old
  • Wage - $17.20 per hour
  • Minimum education required – enrolled in secondary school and returning in the fall

Summer Maintenance, Roads Operations

The Summer Maintenance, Roads Operations position is responsible for the upkeep of our roads and trails through both surface maintenance activities (inspections, pothole repairs, resurfacing, etc.) and roadside maintenance activities (weed control, grass cutting, tree and brush trimming, etc.).

  • Minimum age required – 16 years old
  • Wage - $17.20 per hour
  • Minimum education required – enrolled in secondary school and returning in the fall

Opportunities for post-secondary students

The below jobs require applicants to be enrolled in a post-secondary school with plans to return to school in the fall, at minimum. Post-secondary students are also welcome to apply to any of the jobs listed for high school students.

Student Assistant, Building Services

The Student Assistant position in Building Services is responsible for supporting with building permit applications, customer service and general administrative duties.

  • Wage - $18.92 per hour
  • Minimum education required – enrolled in post-secondary school and returning in the fall

Student Assistant, Municipal Law Enforcement

The Student Assistant position in Municipal Law Enforcement is responsible for enforcing parking regulations, ensuring property standards, overseeing animal control and school crossing guards, and assisting Senior Municipal Law Enforcement Officers as needed. 

  • Wage - $18.92 per hour
  • Minimum education required – enrolled in post-secondary school and returning in the fall

Aquatic Coordinator

The Aquatic Coordinator is responsible for training, scheduling and monitoring staff while coordinating and delivering aquatic programs, and ensuring the safety of staff and swimmers at our pools.   

  • Wage - $23.22 per hour
  • Minimum education required – enrolled in post-secondary school and returning in the fall
  • Additional certifications required – Aquatic Supervisory (AS), National Lifeguard (NL), Lifesaving Swim Instructor, Lifesaving Instructor “Bronze Family,” and Standard First Aid

The Camp Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the planning, coordination, and delivery of child and youth programs, the organizing, training, and overseeing of program staff, and acting as a liaison between camp staff and supervisors.

Student Assistant, Economic Development

The Student Assistant position in Economic Development is responsible for providing exceptional front-line service to residents and businesses, and the creation and promotion of compelling digital content to showcase local businesses.

Student Assistant, Tourism

The Student Assistant position in Tourism is responsible for providing excellent front-line service to visitors and residents, promoting the County’s tourism programs and events, helping local businesses engage the community, and creating digital content to showcase County attractions.

Collections Technician

The Collections Technician is responsible for assisting with projects connected to artifact and archival collections, condition reports and cataloguing, and optimizing digital content within collections.

Educational Content Developer/Videographer

The Educational Content Developer/Videographer is responsible for creating and enhancing educational and special interest programs, developing support materials such as lesson plans, evaluation forms, and online resources, and promoting museum programs through digital and multimedia content.  

  • Wage - $18.92 per hour
  • Minimum education required – enrolled in post-secondary school and returning in the fall

Museum Educational Programming Assistant

The Educational Programming Assistant is responsible for providing exceptional support for children’s summer programs by actively engaging with campers, caregivers and volunteers, and overseeing the care, supervision, safety and overall well-being of campers.

  • Wage - $18.92 per hour
  • Minimum education required – enrolled in post-secondary school and returning in the fall
  • Additional certifications required – Standard First Aid/CPR-C, High Five Principals of Healthy Childhood Development (PHCD), and Lifesaving Society Safeguard.

Museum Educator, Children’s Programming

The Museum Educator, Children’s Programming is responsible for the organization, training, scheduling, and supervision of staff, assisting with volunteer recruitment, and ensuring that educational programs align with organizational standards.

  • Wage - $23.22 per hour
  • Minimum education required – enrolled in post-secondary school and returning in the fall
  • Additional certifications required – Standard First Aid/CPR-C, High Five Principals of Healthy Childhood Development (PHCD), and Lifesaving Society Safeguard.

The Student Assistant position in Clerks is responsible for supporting County Council items, Freedom of Information requests, vital statistics, records management, municipal elections, and clerical tasks.

Student Assistant, Finance

The Student Assistant position in Finance is responsible for supporting the Finance division through coordinating the annual tax sale, updating analysis data, engaging with property owners, and assessing payments.

The Student Assistant, Information Systems is responsible for supporting a variety of IT projects, assisting the service desk, and performing administrative tasks as needed.

The Student Assistant position in Engineering works directly with County project managers to assist on projects related to water and wastewater, sewers, and water treatment plants.

The Student Assistant position in Environmental Operations is responsible for updating divisional resource materials, participating in studies and projects, and ensuring the accuracy of the County’s asset management system.

  • Minimum education required – enrolled in post-secondary school and returning in the fall

Student Assistant, Horticulture

The Student Assistant, Horticulture position is responsible for supporting the maintenance and conservation of County landscapes through the upkeep of gardens, parks, cemeteries, and forest areas.

  • Wage - $23.22 per hour
  • Minimum education required – enrolled in post-secondary school and returning in the fall
  • Additional certifications required – Current First Aid/CPR-C considered an asset
