Stop Control By-law

Being a by-law to regulate stop conditions throughout Haldimand County and repealing predecessor by-laws.


1.THAT every person operating a vehicle shall comply with any traffic control device
erected in compliance with this by-law.

2.THAT Schedule “A” - Stop Location, attached to and forming part of this by-law,
shows:

    • Column 1 of Schedule “A” indicates the name of the highway that must
      stop;
    • Column 2 of Schedule “A” indicates the highway that has the Right of Way
      and
    • Column 3 of Schedule “A” indicates the direction of travel that is required
      to stop.

3. THAT T Schedule “B” - All Way Stop, attached to and forming part of this by-law
shows:

    • Column 1 of Schedule “B” indicates the name of the highway;
    • Column 2 of Schedule “B” indicates the intersecting highway, and
    • Column 3 of Schedule “B” of this by-law indicates the direction of travel that
      is required to stop

4. THAT Schedule “C” – Railway Crossings, attached to and forming part of this bylaw shows:

    • Column 1 of Schedule “C” indicates the name of the highway that must
      stop;
    • Column 2 of Schedule “C” indicates the direction of travel that is required
      to stop, and 
    • Column 3 of Schedule “C” indicates the location of the railway crossing

5. THAT every person contravening any provision of this by-law is guilty of an offence
and upon conviction is subject to a fine recoverable under the Provincial Offences
Act, R.S.O. 1991, c.P.33, as amended.

6. THAT any previous by-laws pertaining to stop conditions including By-laws
103/01, 222/02, 482/04, 674/06, 701/06,709/06, 780/07, 855/07, 863/07, 1089/10,
1309/12, 1310/12, 1458/14, 1520/15, 1572/15, 1574/15, 1598/15, 1629/16,
1656/16, 1657/16, 1671/16, 1672/16, 1673/16, 1712/16, 1724/16, 1733/16,
1804/17, 1866/17, 1901/18, 1955/18, 2025/19, 2051/19, 2069/19, 2077/19,
2087/19, 2106/19, 2183/20, 2198/20, 2207/20, 2256/21, 2294/21, 2316/21,
2327/22, 2346/22 and 2364/22 are hereby repealed.

7. THAT  this by-law shall be known as the Stop Control By-law

8. THAT this by-law shall take precedence over any by-law with which it is
inconsistent.

9. AND THAT this by-law shall come into force and take effect when signage
applicable to this provision has been installed and is on display.
