Hydro Legacy Fund
The Hydro Legacy Fund refers to a source of revenue for the County that was established through the sale of Haldimand County Utilities to Hydro One in 2015 and the subsequent investment of the proceeds.
There are strict guidelines for how the fund can be used, as noted in the Hydro Legacy Fund Policy and Hydro Legacy Reserve Fund By-Law. Acceptable uses include, in priority order:
- Annual inflationary indexing of the principal net sale proceeds
- Contributions towards major assets/infrastructure that benefit Haldimand County
- Annual contributions to reduce the operating tax levy, not to exceed the current contribution of $300,000 approved in 2017
- Financing strategic economic initiatives/opportunities that are anticipated to have County-wide benefits through enhancements to local employment opportunities and Haldimand’s assessment base
