The economic well-being of our communities depends on our existing businesses. We are committed to taking positive action to meet the needs of these vital local businesses.

Program overview

The Haldimand County Business Retention and Expansion (BR+E) program is a proactive approach to:

  • Identify the needs, concerns, and opportunities of existing local businesses to guide future action
  • Learn local businesses’ plans for expansion, relocation and/or retention and identify how we can help
  • Promote a pro-business attitude and develop effective communication with our businesses

Benefits of the program

Focusing on business retention and expansion activities helps inform our strategic planning and supports a healthy local business climate. Benefits of the program include:

  • Provides support to local businesses so they can grow, create jobs and stay in the community
  • Allows for the collection of business and market data to support economic development planning
  • Informs action plans to foster business development, investment and job creation

2023 Business Retention and Expansion Survey

The Business Retention and Expansion survey was conducted through 71 one-on-one interviews. It was developed utilizing a standardized survey from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs that was tailored to our priority sectors.

The survey focused on six main areas:

  1. Business information
  2. Business climate
  3. Future plans
  4. Business development
  5. Workforce
  6. Community development
