Highways

As a centrally-located municipality, Haldimand connects to much of the North American industrial market in just one day. Many of our County roads are also build for high traffic volumes and heavy truck traffic.

Our main connecting roads are:

  • Hwy 6 – running north-south through the County and linking it with Hamilton and Ontario’s 400-series highway network.
  • Hwy 3 – running east-west through the County and linking it with Buffalo and Detroit.

We also have a rich system of secondary highways, providing quick and easy access to nearby cities including Hamilton, St. Catharines, and Niagara Falls.

  • Hwy 403 is a 15-minute drive from the northern tip of Haldimand County and connects to the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) highway.
  • The 400-series highways provide access to the United States to the east, the Quebec-Windsor Corridor to the west and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to the north.

Rail

Haldimand County is accessible to a number of freight rail services. Some of these services are delivered by the following providers.

The Southern Ontario Railway (SOR) is a Canadian subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming Inc. and operates in the Nanticoke area. It connects Lake Erie Industrial Park with Brantford, by way of Caledonia and Hagersville

CPKC a combination of Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern, offering a transnational rail network running 20,000 miles across Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. In Haldimand County, CKPKC connects Port Maitland with Hamilton, stemming at Smithville toward Dunnville.

The CN railway operates across approximately 20,000 miles throughout Canada and mid-America with access to three coasts. Canadian National (CN) services Lake Erie Industrial Park as the long-haul rail service
